Abstract

This paper aims to provide an approach to the Augustinian text De Genesi adversus Manichaeos, work in which the saint comments and defends the account of divine creation of the world in the book of Genesis, against the critical interpretation of the Manichaeism’s members. In order to reach our goal, we will articulate our work in four steps: contextualize the Augustinian text within his work and remark the reasons for his writing; offer some key data about Mani and Manichaeism; present an overview of the Augustinian defense of Scripture in general against the Manichean interpretation and, finally, present some of the main arguments with which Augustine refutes the Manichean critics on book of Genesis.
