Abstract

Among the texts in which Thomas Aquinas argues that there are many ideas in the divine mind, we found one that has not received up to now much attention from researchers and remains almost unexplored: the Quodlibet, IV, q. 1. This source, at the time that holds the unity of God as exemplary cause of all things, recognizes the presence of multiple ideas in his intellect. In addition, because of the date on which it was written, this work contains the final position of St. Thomas on the plurality of divine ideas. These features make it an indispensable piece in addressing this topic. Our paper provides a commentary on the quodlibetum which tries above all to examine the theoretical principles, open the inner ribs of argument and show the extent of their claims.
