Abstract

The convents in Santafé de Bogotá flourished during the years 1574 and 1790, and there was an interesting intellectual and spiritual activity that the religious communities of different orders, Franciscans, Dominicans, Concepcionists, etcetera, among others, cultivated their academic and religious education. The sociocultural
and political atmosphere of the time contributed an essential bibliographical and documental collections and they represented an important evidence to understand the social and institutional process of structure
in every community. Based on these premises, this article studies the main monastic collections of Santafé de Bogotá between 1750 and 1840, in special the conformation process of the repositories and the different
use given to the collections.
