Abstract

In the year of 1672 the new comisario of the Holy Office Antonio de Orta Barroso promulgated in the city of Mérida his first edict of faith. Its importance lies in the large number of complaints that were filed from the next day of its reading to different people, a number, more than a hundred, which stands out for its number for a district in which so many accusations had never been witnessed. There is no doubt that the personality of the comisario had a lot to do with this situation, so it seems important to make a brief profile of this character and know the content and development, as well as the repercussions that this fact had.
