Author Guidelines

Itinerantes publishes original, unpublished articles that encourage debate among researchers, reflect current trends in the social sciences, and contribute to knowledge of religious experience from a historical perspective, without limiting the temporal or geographical scope.

The journal is published twice a year, and each issue may include a monographic dossier, articles, and/or reviews.

Submitted manuscripts are sent to external reviewers and examined by the Editorial Board, which will determine in which issue the accepted articles will be published according to the number and subject matter of the contributions received. The final decision will be communicated to the author. All articles include the dates of receipt and approval at the end. Texts will be published in Spanish, Portuguese, or English. They must be unpublished and not approved for publication in other journals, meeting the following requirements:

Submission of articles: Articles proposed for publication must be submitted in digital format via the journal's website. If you already have a user account, please log in with it; if not, you will need to register.

The file must be prepared for double-blind review. This means that it must not contain any references to the author's identity or institutional affiliation. References to the author's identity must also be removed from the text and footnotes. Avoid self-references such as: “we have already discussed this aspect in another article.”

Enter metadata: You must enter both the author* and article details (title, abstract, keywords, etc.).

Upload a brief CV: In the “biographical summary” section, you must enter a brief CV of up to 10 lines, including information on institutional affiliation, specialty, lines of research, and recent publications.

Upload supplementary files: Here you can include images, tables, charts, and graphs (in Excel or in the original program in which they were created) that form part of the article.

Confirm and send. Upon completing this step, the author will automatically receive an email from the system confirming receipt of the submission.

 * In order to publish the article, the author must have an ORCID identification number. This can be obtained through the ORCID website.

General aspects of manuscripts

Articles and reviews submitted for publication must be sent in Word format, using Times New Roman 12 font and 1.5 line spacing.

Title: must appear in the language of the article and in English. If the original language of the article is English, a summary and keywords in Spanish must be added.

Author details: The manuscript should not contain any information that could identify the author, as the review process by external specialists is conducted in a double-blind format.

Abstract: An abstract of up to 200 words must be included in the original language of the manuscript and in English. Its purpose is to give the reader a general idea of the content of the manuscript.

Keywords: A total of up to 4 keywords must be included, in the original language and in English, which are used to provide the most accurate description possible of the content of the article, thereby enhancing its visibility.

Subheadings: These should be in bold, aligned to the left margin without full stops, underlining, italics, or capital letters. Hyphens or tabs should be placed in the text and there should be no spaces between paragraphs, although a space should be left after the title and subheadings.

References: References to tables, maps, or images must be clear, numbered, and captioned. Images should not be incorporated into the text and must be in JPG format (no less than 300 dpi).

Length: Articles should be no longer than 9,300 words, and reviews should not exceed 1,500 words.

Peer review process

The Editorial Board of Itinerantes conducts an initial review of articles submitted for publication to ensure that they comply with the journal's editorial standards and academic quality. Once this stage has been completed, the Editorial Board selects two external reviewers, either local or international, to review the article. The review is conducted on a “double-blind” basis to preserve the identity of authors and reviewers.

The results of the evaluation may be: a suggestion to publish the article without modifications; a suggestion to publish the article with minor modifications (such as typographical, editorial, spelling, or stylistic corrections); a suggestion to publish the article with major modifications (revising hypotheses, incorporating bibliography, deepening analysis, etc.); or a suggestion not to publish the article. In all cases where the proposed article must be returned to the author for correction, the author will have a period of twenty (20) days to comply.

If the reviewer's suggestion is to publish with minor modifications, the changes made will be verified by the journal's Editorial Board.

In the event that major changes are suggested, the article, once corrected by the author, will be sent back to the reviewer for a second review process.

If the reviewers agree that the article is not suitable for publication, the Editorial Board will inform the author of the decision by email, attaching the reviews and/or a detailed explanation of the reasons for rejection.

Resolution of disputes

In the event of a dispute between reviewers (one acceptance and one rejection), the Editorial Board will refer the article to a third reviewer. If one reviewer suggests rejecting the article and another suggests publishing it with major changes, the Editorial Board will decide whether to reject it or submit it to a third review.

Dossier

Steps to follow for submitting dossier proposals:

The dossier coordinator will upload the application in the “dossier proposal” section. It will include:

- Name, institutional affiliation, and brief CV of up to 1,500 characters (including spaces) of the authors

- Titles of the articles that will make up the dossier

- A brief summary of up to 7,000 characters (including spaces) explaining the general theme to be developed and the main guidelines of the articles that make up the dossier

The editorial board of Itinerantes will evaluate the proposals received and will contact the coordinator to inform them of the decision regarding the publication of the dossier

The original manuscripts will be supervised by the dossier coordinator, who will ensure that they comply with Itinerantes' editorial standards

When the coordinator considers that the dossier is ready to be presented, it will be registered and uploaded to the journal's platform. Please make sure to include it in the “dossier” section

Once the presentation has been uploaded, the coordinator will notify the authors of the articles that they must register on the platform and upload their manuscripts.

A maximum period of 7 days from the submission of the dossier will be given for all the manuscripts that comprise it to be uploaded.

All articles in the dossier will be subject to a blind peer review and external review process.

The publication of the dossier in Itinerantes will depend on all or most of the articles being approved by the reviewers. If this is not the case, the articles that were approved will be considered for publication in the “articles” section.

The dossier may have more than one coordinator, who may also be authors of articles included in the dossier.

Reviews

This section brings together comments on recently published books, dossiers, or other scientific publications.  These reviews will be up to 1,500 words in length.
